Where can alternative energy take us?

You listen to the news, watch the commentaries, and look through the internet and the talk is always the same, the oil cannot last forever. News talks of shortages every winter, the commentaries say we are using more than we are producing and the internet just shows every point of view.
Has the gulf oil spill brought solar energy or wind energy back to the forefront? Is nuclear more of an option than it has been in years past. Can we afford any more damage to this planet or is there a point that we can no longer expect the planet to correct the mistakes we have made, the Chernobyl or Three mile accidents or the continuous oil spills all over this world.
What is the cost for alternative energy and will it help us? To manufacture anything will take raw materials and that will produce waste. We have been able to keep these wastes to a minimum so to build a solar energy source for a home or for an entire community becoming more and more worthwhile. Are we able to build a wind power farm that will provide power to a town or build a unit that we can use for our homes.
With rising fuel costs and the question that there will be no interruption to the worldwide flow of this oil, it is about time to get serious about looking at the future. The world's economy can also become another victim of a lack of interest to find an alternative energy source. With no oil to produce or not being able to safely transport this product could crash the economy world wide.
So the question still remains, where can alternative take us? Can we develop a solar energy source that will free our dependence and and money from a total dependence on this oil. Can we control a piece of our future that will enable us to continue to live as we have become use to. Can we develop a wind power source that will power the cities for the present as well as long into the future.
Alternative energy some day will be very necessary. Why not start now?

Is Our World Safe in Our Hands?

When we look back at this last century it is easy to wonder what type of damage have we done to ourselves and to this planet that we are on, There have been two world wars, countless “police actions”,
and constant turmoil throughout the world. How many tons of explosives have been dropped on the surface of the earth, how many nuclear bombs have been detonated, and what is the effect of the manufacturing and electrical plants?
We have been polluting the oceans for over a century, Whenever a ship went down haw many gallons of oil were dumped into the oceans, how many tons of chemicals were also on those ships in the form of explosives? The German U-boats used mercury as ballast in their submarines, so how much mercury is on the bottom of the oceans and how much has already been released into the water?
Manufacturing throughout the world has increased several times over the last century. Electricity needs to be produced to make these plants run and to power homes, to run the office buildings we work in, the street lights to be on for our safety, and those places we go to for entertainment and relaxation (for example-Las Vegas). To produce this power there are fossil fuels being burned, nuclear power or water being utilized, With two of those sources, there is heat being generated and that also means there is excess heat being dumped into the atmosphere all day, everyday of the year.
So what is the true effect on this planet for all that has been done? With all the manufacturing how much toxic waste has been dumped on the ground or piped into a nearby river. With the burning of fossil fuels how much has this added to the acid rains we destroy the land with. How much have we changed the climate? Are the foods we grow really safe? Are we safe from the all that has been done in the past?
And are we safe from what is happening today. The oil spill in the gulf has brought out new fears and also made the world look for a little while at the future. Can big business be trusted? Can we go back to nuclear? What if we went more to nuclear and there were more Three Mile accidents? Are there alternative energy sources to be used? Solar energy, wind power, or thermal power may be an option to solve some problems for the land and short term but the past will always be there to haunt us.
Many people have many opinions. This is something that can be analyzed, then reanalyzed, and for more fun you can reanalyze it again and every time you may come up with a different conclusion. With the technology of today we can find where we are today, how much pollution is in the air, water and land. But what do we compare that to when we do not know where we were a hundred years ago. The scientist can only guess at those numbers and give us more opinions.
Can we help ourselves? Yes, in my opinion, or at least our little corner of the world. Our homes can go to solar energy, or wind power. Our cars can be developed to get over 50 mpg(all of them). And we may be able to do that if big business and government do not get in the way.

Alternative Energy, Now a Past Item?

What is going on in this world today? Do we really know and are we being told the truth?
Before writing anything I like to watch the news and also go through the internet to see what is current. Lately there seems to be nothing but bad. The tensions in the middle east, North and South Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and of course the oil spill in the gulf. These are the bigger stories. Do not forget the Mexican drug wars, illegal aliens still coming to the US, and the economy in the US.
There is another issue that is escaping media attention at this time and that is a vote in congress in October that is going to affect our constitutional rights to bare arms. The NRA is fighting this hard and a lot of that news is being kept quiet, mostly I believe by our own government, starting at the top.
Has anyone really looked at this president. Still questions (by some) about his birth certificate, has spent us into such debt that is overwhelming, given us a health care package no one wants or can understand, has issues with the American flag being shown during tv speeches, sent a bust of Winston Churchill back to England that has been in the oval office since the end of WWII, made the US apologize to France because he had a previous engagement and could not attend a formal dinner, and now wants to quietly change our right to bare arms. These are just a few that annoy me.
Currently there are Americans who have worked their entire lives and have lost their jobs, and congress won't sign a bill extending unemployment payments due to concerns over the debt crisis! We all must remember that this is a government of the people, by the people and for the people!
In much the same way big business has controlled much of our lives. Why can't a car get 100mpg? Why is alternative energy still not very popular? What of solar energy? What of wind power? Is power from magnets for real? Where have all the jobs gone to? The economy?
This is America, we can voice an opinion. It is still the best place to live. We can also help ourselves and look to the future. This president, in my opinion, is not the future.

The US verses the World

In Europe, as well as the rest of the world, energy costs are much higher. Those countries have been thinking about conservation for a lot longer than people in the US. In the US we make a lot of noise if gasoline prices change, or heating oil and diesel fuel. Europe has fuel costs at about double what they are in the US.
As with any market for anything, the higher the demand the higher the cost. If the demand gets lowered than our out of pocket expenses get lowered. One big example is that now you can buy a house for much less than you could three years ago. Our economy has a lot to do with that but still with no one buying a house or building a new home, those prices have gone way down.
We are not going to stop driving and we are not going to stop using electricity. The usage of electricity in an American home is double of that of a typical home in Europe. We use more lights, air conditioning, pools, a tv in every room, and that is just to mention a few items. So why not help ourselves. Alternative energy is always an option. Solar power and wind power are both options that are always being improved upon, more efficient and easier to install. There is even talk of getting power from magnets to supply electricity for our homes, a source that needs no sun or wind.
Discover what is out there and available for our homes. Alternative energy that we can afford so we can continue to drive!

Electricity With Magnets

Can you really make electricity with magnets? Ask the quarter of a million people who have it in their homes and they will say yes. Ask the corporations that use it as seen on the show “60 Minutes” and they might say yes. Is it a new idea? Not really. It has been slower to develop than other sources of alternative energy but as a renewable energy source it has quite the potential for the future.
Think about the dynamics of electricity with magnets. Not dependent on if the wind blows like wind power. Not dependent on the sun to be shining as is solar power. There are no wind towers or solar power panels. Magnets do not take coffee breaks and have a life expectancy of over 200 years!
We all worry sometimes about if we are about to loose power to our homes due to a blizzard, hurricane, or other weather occurrences. When the power does go out we run to start up our generators and hope we have enough gas to last. To have an alternative energy source available at all times is a relief. Lower electric bills are also nice. Free energy would be even better. It would be nice sometime to be able to watch the electric meter run backwards!
As with other alternative energy, magnets can be considered a green energy source. No emissions into the atmosphere and no ground pollutants. The maintenance is very minimal. It is clean energy that is a renewable energy for the future!

Solar Power

No moving parts, can be stored and as an alternative energy, and it could be called free energy. This type of energy is a renewable energy and great when it can lower your electric bills!
As a green power source for alternative energy there are no towers to deal with, no spinning blades to worry about, and maintenance is minimal and can be even lessened by the type of battery storage used and the size inverter used. The inverter is used to change the generated DC voltage to AC power that runs the lights, tv, and everything we use in our homes.
As a daily source of power, the solar power panel is place on the south exposure. The home solar panels can be placed on roofs, walls or on stands. Solar power panels have no moving parts and solar power systems are always improving as the technology develops. As a renewable energy it energy will be here long after all the oil has been used up.
When used as a backup source for our homes solar power is a viable source. With no power how can gas get pumped for your generator at the store? Any alternative energy has some limitations but is it better to have lights and the refrigerator still running?
Different parts of the country have amounts of peak sun hours available and those are used to calculate the number of panels for total independence. But lower electric bills, free energy and knowing that you have a renewable energy is always a benefit. As with all home projects there are always start up costs but just ask the government for a handout, everyone else gets one!
